Romero says Haney called him out, received a title-fight offer, then failed to move forward with the matchup

Rolando Romero says he no longer wants a fight with Devin Haney after accusing Haney of wasting time during failed welterweight title negotiations. Romero claims he sent Haney a lucrative offer after being publicly called out, only for the fight discussions to collapse afterward.

Haney currently holds the WBO welterweight title after beating Brian Norman Jr. in Riyadh last November, but Romero made it clear he does not expect that unification fight to happen next.

“I don’t want anything to do with Devin Haney ever again. He wasted my time,” Romero told Seconds Out in partnership with Campobet. “He said we sent him a great, lucrative offer and all that stuff after calling me out and saying I’m ducking. I just didn’t want to deal with them originally because, like I said, they are clowns, and I knew that they were gonna do this.

“I was like, ‘Oh yeah, all right, I’m ducking Devin. I don’t care, right?’ But the second I put the pressure, boom, who sent the contract? Who sent the deal? Who sent the offer? We were going to do it on Prime. Who sent everything? Me.

“You can play the big tough guy until you realise you ain’t the big tough guy no more, right? But Devin Haney knows he’s the most hyped-up boxer of this whole entire era.”

The comments put the blame directly on Haney’s side after weeks of talk around a possible welterweight title fight. Romero is not treating it as a stalled negotiation. He is treating it as a waste of time.

That is the useful part of the story. Romero is saying Haney called him out, received the offer, then failed to move. For a fighter who has been waiting on his next fight since the Garcia win, that gives Romero an easy public exit from the Haney talks.

Haney still has the cleaner belt and the bigger name, but Romero has the louder quote here. That is enough for a fast news piece.
