Robert Garcia On Tyson Fury-Dana White Rumors: “Fans Don’t Care”

Trainer Robert Garcia believes the ongoing debate over Tyson Fury potentially working with Dana White is being overblown, insisting that boxing fans only care about one thing: getting the biggest fights made.

Fury addressed the growing talk about his future at the UFC’s White House event over the weekend, where he hinted that a major announcement involving Dana White could be on the horizon. The heavyweight star has been heavily linked to White’s expanding boxing operation, even as his long-discussed showdown with Anthony Joshua remains unresolved.

Asked by Chris Algieri whether Fury’s promotional situation could complicate the long-awaited Joshua fight, Garcia dismissed the idea.

“Fans don’t care. Fans don’t care. As long as the fight happens, I don’t care,” Garcia said to Probox TV. “Anthony Joshua obviously has been very, very loyal and has worked very well with Eddie and Matchroom, and that’s perfect. I love that with fighters also. But Tyson Fury, if he says Turki Alalshikh is his promoter, that fight can still happen.”

Garcia pointed out that the various parties involved in boxing’s biggest events have worked together before, making the promotional wrangling less significant than some have suggested.

“It’s not like they’ve never worked together. They continue working together. So it’s a fight that has no business with the promoters. It’s not like the promoters are going to prevent the fight or anything like that. The promoters can make it happen. Turki could make it happen.”

The Mexican trainer’s bigger concern was that Fury and Joshua continue taking interim bouts instead of finally meeting in the ring.

Garcia previously stated during the discussion that neither heavyweight needs another stay-busy contest and warned that the longer they wait, the greater the chance that injuries, defeats or age diminish the appeal of one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups.

For Robert, Dana White’s possible involvement is secondary. If Fury-Joshua can still be delivered, boxing fans are unlikely to care whose logo appears on the promotional material.
