Caleb Plant appears to be preparing for another run at 168 pounds after more than a year out of the ring, and Ring Magazine stirred up debate this week by asking fans who the former IBF super middleweight champion should fight next.
Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) has not fought since his split decision loss to Armando Resendiz on May 31, 2025, in a bout for the WBA interim super middleweight title. The defeat was a damaging one for the 33-year-old because it left him with three losses in his last five fights dating back to 2021.
The loss to Resendiz also hurt Plant’s chances of securing another lucrative fight with Canelo Alvarez. A second payday against Canelo had been viewed as one of the biggest available options for him at 168, but the setback pushed him further down the pecking order in a crowded division.
Ring Magazine posted a video of Plant back on the heavy bag today, showing him training again after the long layoff and asking fans who they want to see him face in his return.

One name that continues to follow Plant is Jermall Charlo. The two were linked to a grudge fight that had been discussed for early 2026 before talks cooled off. The matchup still has value because of the bad blood between them dating back to their backstage altercation in 2023.
Plant still has name value at 168, but the Resendiz loss damaged his standing in the division.
His wins over Anthony Dirrell and Trevor McCumby kept him relevant at 168, but another defeat in his next outing would leave him in a difficult position heading into the final stretch of his career.
