It’s a step-up fight for the 2020 Olympic silver medalist Torrez Jr. (12-0, 11 KOs), taking on the 2016 Italian Olympian Vianello (13-2-1, 11 KOs). The ring walks for the main event between Torrez Jr, 25, and Vianello is at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT.

Lightweight contender Abdullah Mason weighed 135 lbs for his 10-round fight against replacement opponent Carlos Ornelas. Initially, Mason (17-0, 15 KOs) weighed in at 135.1 lbs, but after stripping down, he made weight on the second try.

“I think he’s gotten a lot more confident, and that confidence has made him a better person to fight,” said Richard Torrez Jr. to Secondsout when asked what his thoughts are on Guido Vianello.

Guido’s fights against Efe Ajgagba and Arslanbek Makhmudov are the ones that Torrez Jr. is talking about, having given him more confidence because he had to deal with a couple of big punchers. Although Vianello, 30, lost the fight to Ajagba by a 10-round split decision, it was a close one, and he showed a lot of heart.

“He’s tried to hone in some of his backhand punches, which is very nice. I think his style plays to mine very well,” said Torrez Jr. about Vianello. “With him being the longer fighter, he wants to stay on the outside. I’m the guy that wants to get in and wants to fight. I’m the guy that is about action.”

Vianello doesn’t possess the kind of punching power that gave Richard Torrez Jr. problems in the past during his amateur days. Torrez Jr was brutally knocked out in the first round by 6’7″ Uzbek Bakhodir Jalolov in September 2019 in Russia.

“I want to show what that persistence and pressure can do to a fighter, especially a heavyweight fighter in the later rounds,” said Torrez. “I’d rather be a warrior in the garden than a gardener in a war. I have the ability for violence, but I choose to be nice. You have to have the ability to be bad and not act on it in order to be good.

“In order for me to achieve what I want to achieve, I’m going to hit you as hard as I can. I don’t say no to fight, I really don’t. I want to fight the best, and I want to prove that I’m the best,” said Torrez Jr. when asked what his thoughts were when asked if he wanted to fight Guido Vianello.
