Ranger Suarez, who earned his second All-Star Game selection in three seasons, was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Boston Red Sox Thursday, July 9 with a left groin strain.

Suarez, 30, signed a five-year, $140 million deal with Boston in the offseason and was a big part of their turaround following a disastrous first month that resulted in the firing of manager Alex Cora. He’s 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA overall, but posted a 2.10 ERA over five starts from June 7 to June 29.

But in his most recent outing, Suarez exited the game after just 2 2/3 innings after covering first base, and then aggravating the injury on the subsequent pitch.
