The New York Jets will have a new starting quarterback for the 2025 season.

It was announced last month that Aaron Rodgers would not return, and the team moved quickly in free agency to add Justin Fields. Fields was given a two-year, $40 million deal with $30 million guaranteed.

With the quarterback position taken care of, the team now needs to address the group of offensive playmakers. Star veteran wide receiver Davante Adams left for the Los Angeles Rams, Allen Lazard is still rumored to be cut, and former starting tight end Tyler Conklin is unsigned.

While Garrett Wilson is still around and is a promising young pass-catcher, there’s not much else to get excited about on this offensive roster. If Fields is going to succeed in New York, more proven playmakers are needed.

Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report recently listed the Jets as one of the best landing spots for Cooper Kupp, who was recently cut by the Rams and will now look to latch on with a new team for the first time in his eight-year career.

Regarding Kupp and the Jets, Rapp offered the following:

Wide receiver became a need after Davante Adams was released, and Kupp is the sort of reliable target (when healthy, the caveat for all of these teams) that would benefit new quarterback Justin Fields.

Garrett Wilson will remain the top dog on the outside, but having a slot receiver like Kupp would complement him nicely. The Jets probably should be getting younger, not older, in the post-Aaron Rodgers world. But Kupp would make sense as one exception to that philosophy.

In 2024, Kupp caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. However, Kupp fell out of favor in Los Angeles due to the team having Puka Nacua and recently adding Adams.

As Rapp pointed out, Kupp has been one of the most reliable receivers in the league when healthy. The receiver hasn’t played a full season since 2021, however, which could scare some teams away from the veteran.

Still, Kupp has performed at an elite level at times. In 2021, Kupp led the league in catches and receiving yards and earned First-team All Pro honors in addition to winning the AP Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Overall, Kupp has surpassed 700 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons. The Jets could certainly use a solid route-runner with sure hands out of the slot to help Fields, and Kupp fits the bill.

Spotrac projects Kupp to land a two-year deal worth $11 million annually. Over the Cap projects the Jets to have around $37 million in cap space after the first days of free agency, so adding Kupp is certainly plausible.
