The Pittsburgh Pirates are back in action against the Cincinnati Reds for the second game of their four-game weekend set at Great American Ball Park.
This game marks the 23rd start of the season for Pirates ace Paul Skenes. He is coming off a tough matchup in his last start on July 25 against the Chicago Cubs. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and five earned runs in an 11-0 loss at home. The silver lining from his start is that he struck out 11 batters, so he hopes to bring that same swing-and-miss stuff against the Reds.
This marks Skenes’ third start this season against the Reds. He picked up a win on April 1 on the road when he pitched five innings, giving up three hits and one earned run, but got the no decision on June 26 at home when he pitched five innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs.
Hunter Greene is making his fifth start of the season after missing most of the year with an injury. He lost his last start on July 25 on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals, giving up eight hits and six earned runs in 5.1 innings.
