The Texas Rangers have placed Michel Otanez on the 15 day injured list with a viral illness, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled lefthanded pitcher Adam Macko.

Otanez was called up yesterday in place of the optioned Robbie Ahlstrom, and hopefully he didn’t give anyone in the clubhouse his virus the one day he was here. Ahlstrom could have been recalled, since he would be replacing a player who is going on the injured list, but apparently the Rangers have seen enough of Ahlstrom in the bigs for now.

Macko was acquired from the Jays for Josh Smith and Josh Stephan at the trade deadline. He has only seven appearances covering 6.2 innings for the Rangers since the trade, and allowed four runs in his previous two major league appearances, the last one of which was eight days ago.

Maybe the Rangers just wanted Macko to get to see his old teammates, and he’ll be sent back down for someone else on Monday.
