While discussing the matchup, Foster explained why he believes the Ford fight could increase demand for a future clash with Shakur.
“If we being real, he got a little bit more in his toolbox than Shakur,” said Foster to Fighthype “He’s not a greater fighter or greater fighter as far as distance and all that, but as far as certain tools that he throw in the ring offensive-wise, he do it a little better than Shakur certain things.”
Foster believes Ford’s style will give fans a preview of how a fight with Stevenson could look, especially with the amount of attention already surrounding the possibility of the two eventually meeting.
“With the style that Ray got, he tries to mimic Shakur,” Foster said. “Once they see that I can handle that, they gonna be anxious to see what I do to Shakur.”
Foster also spent much of the interview criticizing the amount of support Ford has received from Stevenson, Keyshawn Davis, and other fighters connected to their circle ahead of Saturday’s fight.
“They can form whatever Avengers team they need,” Foster said. “Once I do what I do to him, it’s gonna make me even look better.”
The WBC champion suggested Stevenson and his team are building Ford up for this fight because they understand the danger he presents stylistically.
“I saw an interview with Shakur,” Foster said. “He said me and Keyshawn, if we sparring each other, nobody can beat us because we the best in the world. If I was Ray Ford, I’d be pissed. That tell me they giving belt to little buddy over there.”
Foster made it clear he expects a dominant performance against Ford on Saturday and believes Stevenson will have little choice but to pursue a fight with him afterward.
“He definitely going to have to answer after the fight,” Foster said.
The Foster vs. Ford main event streams live on DAZN from the Toyota Center in Houston.
