Nigel Benn says Conor Benn is the golden goose after Zuffa move

“Conor’s the golden goose,” Nigel Benn told BoxingScene.

Nigel calling Conor the golden goose is definitely more of a proud’s promo line than a reflection of Conor’s actual standing with the hardcore U.S. crowd. To many American fans, he’s still the nepo baby who hasn’t proven he can hang with the top-level fighters.

Benn’s “golden goose” status in 2026 is purely financial and geographical, not necessarily based on his P4P talent. His fanbase is in the UK, not in the U.S. Many younger fans are unfamiliar with Benn’s famous father, Nigel.

Conor is a “golden goose” because Zuffa Boxing and the Saudi-backed Sela are willing to overpay for him to be their flagship name. He’s not because he sells out the MGM Grand or Madison Square Garden.

Dana White needs a star to launch this new Zuffa Boxing era. Benn has the look, the famous name, and the UK following to act as the bridge between the old guard and this new Netflix/Zuffa model.

Nigel’s “Golden goose” claim relies entirely on the names Conor is calling out: Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and Shakur Stevenson. These fighters are calling Benn out because Zuffa is writing the checks. To them, Conor is a low-risk payday. They don’t fear his power after watching him go life and death with Regis Prograis on April 11th.

Nigel also said he would welcome a third fight with Chris Eubank Jr at super middleweight, backing Conor to win again if the rivalry is revived.

It’s the biggest safe payday left in the UK. Fighting Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, or Ennis likely ends in a one-sided beating of Conor. Fighting a fading Eubank Jr. at a higher weight is a circus act that pays like a world title fight.
