What the Cleveland Browns do in the 2025 NFL Draft will likely be a telling sign of what’s to come over the next few months.

The Browns still have some free agency decisions to make, including the future of fan-favorite running back Nick Chubb.

A reunion with Chubb can’t be counted out just yet, but for a Browns team that wants to start competing in the near future, keeping him around might not make too much sense.

While he’s excellent when he’s on the field and is loved by everybody, it’s tough to ignore the injuries he’s dealt with throughout his career.

Both sides seem to understand that, in a sense.

According to a recent report from Tony Grossi, even if the Browns sign him to a deal, Chubb will likely have to take a lesser role due to the team wanting to change its strategy in the running back room.

“The Browns want to get fresher and more explosive at the lead running back position. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t bring back Chubb, but it means he would have to accept a lesser role with a commensurate salary,” Grossi wrote. “I’m hopeful Chubb will come back, but if he gets another offer I don’t think he will.”

In the 2024 season, Chubb returned from injury but got hurt after just 102 rushing attempts, posting 332 yards and three touchdowns.

However, it remains uncertain if that’s still the same player he is, given all these injuries.
