NBA rescinds Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson’s controversial technical foul against Victor Wembanyama

The NBA announced Saturday it has rescinded the technical foul against New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson from Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals.

It was a controversial tech, as the officials hit Robinson for pushing away Victor Wembanyama as the two were fighting for position in the paint in the second quarter. What was not called, however, was Wembanyama similarly pushing Robinson a second earlier.

Wembanyama made the resulting free throw to give the Spurs a 47-42 lead. The Knicks would go on to win a 105-104 thriller, giving them a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals and a 13-game winning streak, which goes back to their first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks.

Rescinding the tech obviously won’t affect the game, but it will save Robinson a compulsory fine and won’t go into his count for an automatic suspension.

Robinson, who is playing a week after undergoing surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right pinky finger, finished the game with 7 points on 2-of-2 shooting, 3 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal and 1 turnover.

Wembanyama led all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting plus 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, but his blunders in the final minute opened the door for the New York win. Robinson and starter Karl-Anthony Towns have been doing a good job against him overall, in arguably the most important matchup of the series.

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Madison Square Garden, with ticket prices astronomically high and President Trump expected to attend.
