MANCHESTER UNITED youngster James Scanlon has joined Swindon Town on loan for the remainder of the season.
Scanlon has outgrown academy football and is ready to test himself against seniors in League Two.
The 19-year-old missed out on a loan move last summer, but he will now get the opportunity to gain experience against pros in the EFL.
Scanlon has scored five goals in 22 appearances for the U21s this term, including a stunning hat-trick in United’s 3-2 win over Sporting Lisbon in front of Michael Carrick and his first team staff.
His family have long wanted the attacking midfielder to develop on loan, in the same way that Harry Amass and Ethan Wheatley have.
Scanlon was born in the Midlands but has earned 20 caps for Gibraltar, and he scored an incredible goal against the Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier last summer.

United rewarded Scanlon with his first professional contract at the club in May 2024.
SunSport confirmed that Wheatley, 20, switched Northampton Town for Bradford City until the summer, after the striker’s bright start to the season.
United are set to announce Under-21 star Gabriele Biancheri’s six-month loan move to League One Rotherham United.
The 19-year-old had attracted interest from around Europe, including Real Betis, but Rotherham are seen as the best step for his development.
Biancheri has scored five goals in 10 Premier League 2 appearances this season.
Under-21s captain Jacob Devaney has joined Scottish Premiership side St Mirren until the summer, with the announcement imminent.
Devaney, who has played in midfield and as a centre-back this season, scored a brilliant solo goal against Notts County in the Vertu Trophy earlier this season.
Defenders Sonny Aljofree, 21, and Louis Jackson, 20, missed out on new loan agreements after being recalled from Notts County and Solihull Moors respectively.
Aljofree has been named skipper for the game with Devaney heading to Scotland.
Meanwhile, the major moves before deadline day were Harry Amass swapping Sheffield Wednesday for Norwich and Toby Collyer trading West Brom for Hull City.
However, Amass’ hamstring injury in Norwich training last week has put his six-month loan stint at risk.
United will have 12 youngsters in total out on loan, including Jack Moorhouse at Leyton Orient and Ethan Williams at Falkirk.
Goalkeeper Radek Vitek has been making headlines at temporary club Bristol City.
While Ethan Ennis and Dan Gore are progressing at Fleetwood Town and Rotherham respectively.
Enzo Kana-Biyik is at Ineos-owned club FC Lausanne, with whizkid Sekou Kone set to join before the Swiss window shuts on February 16.
