LIVERPOOL ace Giovanni Leoni could be sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a devastating injury on his debut.

Leoni, 18, tore his ACL on Tuesday during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup at Anfield.

The centre-back is now expected to be on the shelf for several months.

And the Italy Under-19 international is facing a long and tough road ahead of him in his bid to return to action before the end of the season.

Leoni had impressed in his first outing for the Merseysiders before he took an awkward fall.

The defender was checked over by medical staff on the side of the pitch before being taken away on a stretcher.

The Italian was carried off the pitch in tears and replaced by Milos Kerkez on 81 minutes.
