The Pittsburgh Steelers are seemingly the last team standing in the Aaron Rodgers saga, and while the Steelers offer the future Hall of Fame quarterback a chance at the playoffs and maybe more, that might not be good enough.

In a recent appearance on Colin Cowherd’s show on FOX Sports 1, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini agreed with Cowherd that the Steelers might not be a good enough situation for Rodgers as he seeks to win a Super Bowl in 2025, which is why he is continuing to wait to make a decision.

Who might Rodgers be waiting for? Well, Russini thinks it could be the Minnesota Vikings, who appear to be set on rolling with J.J. McCarthy but haven’t completely closed the door on going after Rodgers.

“Minnesota needs to see something. I’m with you, I think Aaron Rodgers is definitely sitting back going, ‘I want to go to a place where I can drop right in like Tom Brady did in Tampa Bay and win a Super Bowl this year,’” Russini said. “I don’t think the Pittsburgh Steelers are built to win. The Minnesota Vikings are built to win.”

Adding to Russini’s thoughts, CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala is hearing that Rodgers is “more likely to retire than sign with a team that’s not a Super Bowl contender,” which adds more fuel to the notion that the 10-time Pro Bowler does not see the Steelers as a team that can win the Big Game in 2025.

The Steelers certainly aren’t a terrible option for Rodgers. Pittsburgh was a playoff team last season despite lackluster quarterback play, they’ve added DK Metcalf to a receivers room that also includes George Pickens, which is a solid one-two punch, and the defense should be one of the better units in the NFL.

All that said, it’s true the Vikings provide a better situation after a 14-3 campaign. Minnesota’s defense is elite, and the team has more talent on the offensive side of the ball than Pittsburgh, including an impressive trio of pass-catchers in Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson.

It’s hard to know what Rodgers is really thinking, but his actions say a lot. If he was fully convinced the Steelers gave him a good chance to win a Super Bowl, he would have signed on the dotted line already.

With the possibility that Rodgers doesn’t go to Pittsburgh, it leaves the Steelers in a really bad spot. The team doesn’t have a starting quarterback on its roster, and there aren’t any great options out there to remedy that need via trade or free agency.

The Steelers could very well draft a quarterback, but there’s no guarantee that player will be ready to make an impact in Year 1, if ever.
