Turki Alalshikh reminded fans on X that this Saturday’s Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn card is more than “just one fight.” Alalshikh says the undercard is “stacked” with the “biggest names” for the event on DAZN PPV this Saturday, April 26th, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Failing to Connect (with the U.S.)
The reason non-UK boxing fans are ignoring the undercard is that it is entirely tailored for British consumption, lacking American fighters. With the main event fight being two UK boxers that is more of a family feud than a true fight involving two world class fighters, it’s a mistake for the card to be 100% UK-heavy. Turki should have substituted three of the undercard fights with American or international fighters, not from the UK, to increase appeal.
Saturday’s Fatal Fury Undercard
- Anthony Yarde vs. Lyndon Arthur
- Liam Smith vs. Aaron McKenna
- Chris Billiam-Smith vs. Brandon Glanton
- Viddal Riley vs. Cheavon Clarke
These are not fights that will interest fans in the U.S market. Not one of these fights will appeal to Americans. Surely, someone among Turki’s team should have noticed this and substituted some talented fighters from abroad.
$24.99 Question Mark
The $24.99 DAZN PPV price is also a problem for U.S fans, who have only slight interest in the Eubank Jr-Benn fight, due to it being more a family feud/celebrity match than one involving fighters capable of winning world titles. It would have been a better idea for Turki to have made the event for free for the U.S market than putting it on PPV. That’s how I see it.
There’s not enough interest from American fans in the main event for it to be priced at $24.99. Again, the undercard is a complete miss, and does nothing for U.S fans. The 12 pm ET / 9 am PT start time of the event is also a problem for Americans, who aren’t accustomed to watching boxing events that early in the day on Saturday.
It’s not just one fight.. it’s an all-out chaos 💥
