Rosario presented the kind of danger Chavez had not encountered. The WBA champion had knocked out Livingstone Bramble in two rounds the previous year and possessed genuine power in both hands. Rosario Could Not Keep Chavez Away

Chavez looked almost untouched as he drove Rosario into a corner during the 11th. With the champion taking another sustained attack, his corner threw in the towel. Referee Richard Steele stopped it at 2:38. All three judges had Chavez far in front: 98-92, 99-91, and 100-92.
