Katzourakis Stays Unbeaten
Andreas Katzourakis (17-0, 11 KOs) defeated Misael Rodriguez (16-1, 8 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision. Katzourakis controlled much of the early action with steady pressure, body punching, and inside combinations that repeatedly backed Rodriguez up. Rodriguez rallied during the later rounds with sharper counters and improved activity, but Katzourakis continued landing the more consistent power shots and controlled the pace of the fight. The judges scored the bout 99-91, 97-93, and 96-94 for Katzourakis, who remained unbeaten with the victory.
Suray Mahmutovic (9-1-1, 6 KOs) defeated Raphael Monny (9-1, 3 KOs) by split decision Saturday night in an eight-round light heavyweight fight. Monny had success early using movement, technical boxing, and cleaner combinations to control distance and pick up rounds. Mahmutovic gradually closed the gap with steady pressure, body punching, and a higher work rate during exchanges in the second half of the fight. Two judges favored Mahmutovic’s aggression and volume by scores of 77-74 and 76-75, while the third card also read 76-75 in the closely contested fight.
Ivan Ortiz (13-0-2, 9 KOs) defeated Justin Viloria (12-1, 8 KOs) by eight-round unanimous decision Saturday night in a lightweight fight. Viloria had success early using his southpaw stance, movement, and cleaner punching at range, but Ortiz gradually took control with nonstop pressure and steady body work. Ortiz forced exchanges throughout the second half of the fight and outworked Viloria on the inside to secure scores of 78-73, 76-75, and 76-75. The victory was viewed as an upset by many fans and observers, given Viloria entered the fight as one of the heavily favored prospects on the card.
Heavyweight Da’Mazion Vanhouter (12-0, 9 KOs) stopped Raphael Murphy (18-2, 14 KOs) in the first round. The 21-year-old heavyweight prospect quickly hurt the 40-year-old Murphy with body shots before trapping him along the ropes and unloading combinations. Referee Tony Weeks stepped in and halted the fight at 1:06 of the opening round as Murphy struggled to defend himself under heavy pressure. The explosive stoppage continued Vanhouter’s rapid rise as one of the young heavyweight prospects on the Zuffa roster.
Alexis Alvarado beat previously unbeaten Emiliano Cardenas for his first professional loss with a six-round majority decision victory. Alvarado (10-1-1, 5 KOs) applied steady pressure throughout the bantamweight fight and gradually took control during the second half of the contest as Cardenas (10-1, 4 KOs) struggled to maintain momentum. The underdog finished strongly in the sixth round, helping secure scorecards of 58-56, 57-57, and 58-56.
Rakhmatullo Boymatov stopped Caleb Hall. Boymatov (1-0, 1 KO) overwhelmed Hall (6-3-1, 4 KOs) early with pressure and power shots, hurting him with a left hook before trapping him against the ropes. Hall struggled to recover as the unbeaten Uzbek prospect continued landing clean punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight at 2:42 of Round 1. The victory marked an impressive professional debut for Boymatov.
