Joseph Parker believes Daniel Dubois carries more raw punching power than Fabio Wardley ahead of Saturday’s WBO heavyweight title fight in Manchester.
“I would say in my opinion, Dubois is the bigger puncher,” Parker told Playbook Boxing. “Fabio has some great knockouts himself, but there’s something about Dubois, just raw and aggressive.”
Wardley stopped Parker in the eleventh round earlier this year to win the interim WBO heavyweight title before later being elevated to full champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt.
Despite losing to Wardley, Parker said he still believes Dubois has advantages going into the fight because of his background and style.
“There’s a bit of a difference,” Parker said. “With Dubois, the boxing background he has.”
Parker also admitted he felt he underperformed in the Wardley fight.
“I feel like I really underperformed, around 50, 60% of what I could do,” Parker said. “I reckon Wardley should’ve knocked me out early on.”
Saturday’s fight has been billed “Don’t Blink” because of the knockout records of both heavyweights. Wardley and Dubois both enter the fight with knockout ratios near 95%.
Parker was originally scheduled to fight Dubois last year before Dubois withdrew during fight week because of illness.
Meanwhile, Parker said his team has submitted information to authorities following the positive cocaine test connected to the Wardley fight and hopes to return soon. He added that he wants the winner of Saturday’s bout.
