The New York Jets have turned the page to a new chapter at quarterback in 2025 after the team cut Aaron Rodgers and signed Justin Fields in free agency.

But that doesn’t mean the quarterback position is taken care of the for the long haul. Sure, Fields is young, but he remains unproven and will only have two years, at most, to prove he’s the answer in New York.

One analyst isn’t so sure he’s going to do that, though.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid put out a way-too-early 2026 NFL mock draft and had the Jets taking a quarterback at No. 4 overall, which also means he believes the Jets will stink in 2025 and Fields won’t prove to be what Gang Green needs.

Reid mocks South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers to New York.

If the Jets are picking this high, they probably didn’t have a great 2025 season. And that means they would be in the market for a quarterback, despite another year on Justin Fields’ contract.

Sellers’ superb traits make him a contender for a meteoric rise up the board. He’s a true dual threat, having passed for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns with 7 interceptions in 2024 while rushing for another 674 yards and seven scores. Sellers will have to improve his pocket vision and ball security (six lost fumbles in seven games), but he has the physical tools that NFL teams covet. He reminds me a lot of Donovan McNabb coming out of Syracuse.

It remains to be seen if Sellers will even come out of college in 2026, but if he does, he has a good chance to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board.

Sellers got a chance to show his stuff in 2024 at South Carolina, where he proved to be a dynamic threat with his arm and legs.

Sellers tossed for 2,534 yards and 18 touchdowns to seven picks while also completing 65.6% of his passes. The Gamecocks quarterback flashed his elite athleticism, also, by running for 674 yards and another seven scores.

As good as he looked, there’s still a long way to go before next year’s draft and there is zero guarantee Sellers will be as highly-touted next year.

After all, we witnessed someone like Quinn Ewers go from being one of the most highly-touted college quarterbacks before the 2024 season to a seventh-round selection when the 2025 draft rolled around.

But if Sellers continues on his current trajectory and the Jets stink it up again in 2025, he could very well land in New York.
