Jermall Charlo Targets Third World Title Ahead Of July 25 Return

The unbeaten former two-division champion says super middleweight is now his permanent home as he begins another title chase

Jermall Charlo says winning a world title in a third weight class is now his priority as he prepares to continue his comeback on July 25 in Australia. The unbeaten former champion believes moving permanently to super middleweight gives him his best path back to the top.

“I want to go for another world title in a third weight division. I feel a lot more comfortable at 168. It really doesn’t matter who they put in front of me,” said Jermall to Premier Boxing Champions. “I feel like I’m gonna have my advantages in this division. I’m planning to make this quarter of my career the best one.”

Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) also said he has taken a different approach to preparation by putting more trust in longtime trainer Ronnie Shields to handle the scouting of Mazoudier rather than studying opponents himself.

The 36-year-old Jermall has fought only three times since defeating Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2020. His most recent appearance came in May 2025 when he stopped Thomas LaManna after five rounds in his first fight at super middleweight.

Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs) is moving up from junior middleweight for the bout. A victory would strengthen Charlo’s position as he attempts to work his way into contention in one of boxing’s deepest divisions.

The July 25 bout marks Charlo’s second appearance at super middleweight following his stoppage victory over Thomas LaManna last year. He has made it clear that another world title is the ultimate goal for this stage of his career.
