Moses said the exchange confirmed something he had not seen in other opponents, saying that both fighters left the interaction knowing what was there. Itauma did not expand on it in detail, but he made clear that he believed he had the upper hand before stepping into the ring.

The 21-year-old also dismissed the idea of using face-offs as a means of intimidation through talk or theatrics. He said his focus in those moments is to observe rather than perform, explaining that he is trying to “see what’s in your eyes” rather than create a scene. Itauma told Jamie Lang that he does not need to act aggressively because his record and early knockouts already prompt reactions from opponents before the opening bell.

The Slovakia-born Itauma’s recent opposition has been against older, more experienced fighters, including Whyte (37), Mike Balogun (41), Demsey McKean (34), and Mariusz Wach (44), as well as a mix of journeymen and mid-level fighters.

That pattern leaves his claim difficult to test. The outcomes so far have been decided by speed and power once the fight starts, not by what is shown in a staredown. Essentially, the fights were won the moment they were signed, because these were not top-tier opponents. So, it’s hard to buy into Itauma’s theory on having won these fights during the staredown, because he would have won the contests even if these guys were confident.

The Queensberry-promoted Moses said he has seen situations where fighters lose composure before the fight starts, pointing to fatigue, pressure, or doubt showing in small details during those exchanges. Itauma treats those moments as information rather than theater.

Itauma is clearly moving away from the usual heavyweight script of staged chaos and shouting matches. Instead of trying to build hype through a manufactured scene, he is hunting for the exact moment an opponent’s confidence breaks. He treats the face-off as a diagnostic tool rather than a performance, convinced that many fights are settled by a look long before the first bell rings.
