MARC GUEHI has claimed that it wasn’t his choice to join Manchester City – instead thanking God for his January transfer.

The England centre-back moved for £20million last month despite being close to a move to Liverpool over the summer.

Now, with Guehi set to face the Reds at Anfield on Sunday, he has opened up on how his turbulent saga played out.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the match, Guehi admitted: “I said in previous interviews, it wasn’t really up to me.

“It was God’s plan, and God’s plan has come to full fruition.

“So I’m just looking forward to the game, against tough opposition, in a great environment, and we’ll be doing our best to get a win.”

Guehi, 25, has already beaten Liverpool three times this season, all whilst captaining Crystal Palace.

In August 2025 his Palace side beat Arne Slot‘s men on penalties in the Community Shield after a 2-2 draw at Wembley.

Then, Palace ended Liverpool’s five-match winning start in the Premier League with a late 2-1 victory.

Guehi also played the full match when Palace won 3-0 on Merseyside in the Carabao Cup fourth round against a weakened Liverpool XI.

It is these performances as well as high-level consistency since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021 that have earned Guehi a contract at City worth around £300,000 per week.

On the speed of his January exit from Selhurst Park, Guehi added: “Things happen quite quickly to be honest but it was how keen the club were and how sure the club were on me.

“I listened to the project and talked to the important people and I was very sure.

“So it happened in a very quick space of time.

“Just being here for two minutes, it feels like I’ve learned so much from every single person – from the players, the staff and of course the manager.

“In such a short space of time it feels like my head has been filled with so much knowledge.

“It’s exactly what I’ve wanted for so long, so it’s great.”
