Former Astros manager A.J. Hinch still has strong ties to Houston and to franchise owner Jim Crane. However, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, he is not interested in leaving his managerial job in Detroit for the Astros front office. From Nightengale:
While Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch still is beloved in the Houston Astros organization and has a strong relationship with owner Jim Crane, he has no interest at this time of filling their GM vacancy. He received a contract extension from the Tigers at the end of last season and wants to remain in the role.
The Astros are expected to hire a GM with a strong analytics background.
