The New York Giants traded back up in the first round to select Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss. Doing so was the right decision, but it added some questions to a Giants quarterback room that was already a bit questionable.

With Russell Wilson expected to be the QB1, there might not be much of a place for Jameis Winston on the roster now.

As the Giants get into the summer months and training camp, there will likely be teams interested in adding a quarterback still.

That’s where trading Winston could come into play, which Moe Moton of Bleacher Report suggested they do after selecting Dart.

“Jameis Winston’s stint in New York would be fun to watch with his personality. However, the Giants must think about the complexion of their quarterback room and how they can squeeze value out of it.

“Head coach Brian Daboll has tabbed Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback. Big Blue traded back into the first round for Jaxson Dart. Winston is in no-man’s land between the team’s current and potential future starting quarterbacks,” he wrote.

Winston is an excellent locker room presence, and there’s value in that.

However, the Giants need to start winning some football games. If they could trade him for a low draft pick or a young player, it might not be the worst idea to give a different player a chance.

At some point, Dart needs to be the starter.

If Wilson were to go down, the Giants shouldn’t look at Winston as the new QB1. By trading him, the front office wouldn’t have to worry about the coaching staff doing that.
