Buster Posey didn’t forget.
Three weeks ago, the Giants president of baseball operations appeared on his weekly “Giants Executive Show” on radio partner KNBR for a 25-minute interview. During a subsequent segment, an unnamed producer was heard doing a microphone test then saying “Posey sucks, man.”
KNBR wiped all traces of that segment from the internet after the apparent hot-mic moment received attention, but that obviously didn’t stop from word spreading. It’s not the only thing to go wrong with the Giants this season.
On Thursday, Posey appeared on KNBR for the first time since the incident and had something to say to hosts Brian Murphy and Markus Boucher on his way out.
The exchange:
BOUCHER: “… enjoy the Wall of Fame ceremony and we’ll talk to you soon.”
POSEY: “Sounds good, guys. Hey, make sure the mics aren’t hot before you talk trash about me.”
BOUCHER: “Yeah, we’ll make sure the behind-the-scenes boys don’t press any hot mics. Appreciate you. Love you, Buster. Thank you, man. Buster Posey with the mic drop. Yeah, his mic was hot for that one.”
The tone of the exchange appeared friendly, though it also comes after a recent report from SF Gate that the relationship between the Giants and KNBR is fraying, with one source saying “It’s never been this bad.” That producer’s call-out obviously wouldn’t have helped.
It also comes amid a trying season for the Giants in general, as the club is 48-67 and only three games from last place in the NL West in a season in which it was trying to compete. The team sold at the MLB trade deadline, but could be staring down the possibility of a full rebuild soon. That’s to say nothing of the Giants’ extracurricular issues, such as the Pride Night debacle, from which Posey drew plenty of criticism, and their ace Logan Webb crashing out on X.
Posey has been leading the Giants’ baseball operations since September 2024 and remains one of the best players in club history.
