During their run of success from the 1970s to the 90s, the Dallas Cowboys became known as “America’s team.” Well, if you ask former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, that label now belongs to the Kansas City Chiefs, with superstar musician Taylor Swift being a big reason why.

The Chiefs are the newest dynasty in the NFL, following in the footsteps of the New England Patriots. Kansas City’s popularity has hit new heights, though, thanks to the superstar status of their top players, such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

It also helps that they have fans of Swift’s joining in on the fun due to her relationship with Kelce. Put their on-field success together with their global popularity, and Daniel believes that makes the Chiefs the new “America’s team,” taking the label away from the Cowboys.

“If you talk about on-field success, sustained success for the Chiefs has brought global recognition brand recognition,” Daniel said on “The Facility.” “You were talking about Kim Kardashian, how about Taylor Swift?”

“When you look at what the Chiefs have done, and you look at the global brand recognition, it’s really hard to say right now that the Kansas City Chiefs are not the new ‘America’s team.'”

While Kansas City lost Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles, they have still won three rings during the Mahomes era, and they have shown no signs of stopping anytime soon. Furthermore, they gain more and more fans every year, whether it be due to people like Swift joining their army, or the league’s continued international expansion.

The Cowboys have made improvements this offseason, but their lack of playoff success has made it difficult for them to hold the title in Daniel’s eyes. Whether they can bounce back or not in 2025 remains to be seen, but for now, it’s fair to wonder whether or not they are actually “America’s team.”
