“Congratulations, Albert Bell,” Schofield Sr. said to Fighthype. “The fact that you turned around and won that title because you was winning that. No matter how they was bull craping on the scorecards, no matter how rigged boxing is, you deserve your kudos because you performed good, Albert Bell.”

“Keep your head up. We know they robbed you. We already know. Good job, young man.”

Schofield Sr. also rejected comparisons between Mason and his son, unbeaten lightweight contender Floyd Schofield Jr.

“And for those comparing Abdullah the kid, man, y’all better stop playing with us. Stop playing.”

Mason was later asked about Schofield Sr.’s comments during the post-fight press conference, including the suggestion that the ending was “fishy.”

“What’s fishy? I don’t even know,” Mason said. “I have no idea what that means.”

Asked if he believed Bell was finished after the second knockdown, Mason expressed confidence the outcome would not have changed.

“It was early in the round, so I had a lot more coming,” Mason said. “Even if he got back up, I definitely would have had more to put him down again.”

Bell’s effort split the boxing community. A lot of onlookers felt the veteran built a massive lead with his boxing skills before the referee stepped in, while others believed Mason’s heavy body work was systematically breaking him down anyway. Schofield Sr. definitely isn’t riding the fence, making it clear he believes Bell was the rightful winner before the stoppage.

The fight proved that a patient boxer with good timing can find a home for clean shots against Mason. If Bell could exploit those defensive gaps on short notice, it forces you to think about what Floyd Schofield Jr. might do with his superior speed and power. Mason showed he has the closing gear to salvage a tough night, but those defensive lapses will keep the talk going until these two unbeaten lightweights square off.
