Lightweights Abdullah Mason and Keyshawn Davis are the latest brand ambassadors for The Ring. Fans hope now for Turki Alalshikh to set up a fight between them before Keyshawn (13-0, 9 KOs) outgrows the weight class.
#4 WBC and #8 WBO, Mason (18-0, 16 KOs) and Keyshawn are both promoted by Top Rank. It would be an easy fight to make. They obviously will keep them apart to have two separate revenue streams, but now that they’re brand ambassadors for Turki’s magazine, it would be an ideal bout for him to set up for one of his Riyadh Season events.
Who Blinks First?
Mason, 21, still hasn’t been tested against world-class-level opposition during his short four-year pro career, but neither has Keyshawn. He’s avoided Andy Cruz and hasn’t shown much ambition to fight Raymond Muratalla either. We know Keyshawn calls himself ‘The Businessman,’ but come on, when will he take a risk? Did that fourth loss to the Cuban talent Andy Cruz mess Keyshawn up that bad, where he’s afraid to step up? That’s where Turki needs to step in and give him an offer he can’t refuse.
Although Keyshawn called out Gervonta Davis and Vasily Lomachenko, that’s more about wanting the paydays rather than believing he can beat either of those guys. Turki using his pull to make a fight between Mason and Keyshawn would be an excellent fight to headline one of his cards in Riyadh. Whoever loses could be matched against Shakur Stevenson.
For the Norfolk, Virginia native, Keyshawn, it’s more important for him to get a big fight before he leaves the 135-lb division. He’s killing himself, making weight to stay at lightweight, but he can’t do that indefinitely. The 2020 Olympic silver medalist Davis’ time is quickly coming to an end in that division, and he might not have the same success at 140 or 147 because there aren’t any easy marks for him to pick up a belt.
The Ring is happy to welcome WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis as our brand ambassador. Huge things ahead for this rising star—wishing him nothing but the best as he continues to climb to the top of the sport. pic.twitter.com/UePxgZ7tbv
