Lando Norris topped both practice sessions from McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri on the opening day of action at the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Having led first practice held in hot conditions by 0.019s, the Briton extended his advantage over the world championship leader to 0.291s in FP2 as cloud cover and later running cooled the track.
Both McLaren drivers pushed to find the limits around the Hungaroring, each enduring risky off-track moments, with Piastri sliding through Turn 4 and Norris dipping a wheel on the grass at the final corner.
Fernando Alonso missed FP1 as he managed a back muscle injury, with Felipe Drugovich taking on driving duties at Aston Martin, but the two-time F1 world champion returned to action for the second session without issue as he took fifth on the times just behind team-mate Lance Stroll in fourth.
Charles Leclerc split the McLarens from the Aston Martins in third for Ferrari – but almost four-tenths of a second off pacesetter Norris – with Lewis Hamilton slotting into seventh having conceded three-tenths to his Scuderia stablemate.
Max Verstappen endured a tough Friday for Red Bull as he complained of no balance in his RB21 on his way to 14th in FP2, and to make matters worse he and the team are due to visit the stewards after the four-time world champion threw a towel out of his cockpit while on track.
