England 0-0 Netherlands

1 – Underway for the Lionesses HUGE clash in Switzerland!

Sarina Wiegman’s side need a big performance and result tonight.

Countdown to KO

We are almost ready to go in this HUGE clash!

The Lionesses need a big performance out there tonight.

How the Netherlands look

Netherlands started their campaign with a 3-0 thrashing of Wales on their tournament debut.

Scorer Danielle van de Donk drops to the bench.

Netherlands starting XI: Van Domselaar, Casparij, Janssen, Buurman, Brugts, Groenen, Kaptein, Grant, Pelova, Roord, Midema

Sarina Wiegman names her side

Former Dutch manager Sarina Weigman has named her Lionesses side to take on her former side.

The only change comes in attack, as Ella Toone slots behind Alessia Russo, and Lauren James goes out wide, with Beth Mead on the bench.

England starting XI: Hampton, Bronze, Williamson, Greenwood, Carter, Walsh, Stanway, James, Toone, Hemp, Russo

Group permutations

England cannot be knocked out with a draw, but they would likely need a favour from France on the final day.

If France avoid defeat against Wales and England draw against Netherlands, France and Netherlands could both advance with a draw on the final day while knocking out the holders.

The beauty about it is that it’s still in the Lionesses’ hands as it currently stands.

But anything less than a win becomes a big problem for Sarina Wiegman and Co.

Last time out

Sarina Wiegman suffered her first-ever European Championship defeat as England were handed a major reality check by France.

The Dutchwoman, buoyed by the return of Lauren James, went into the match insisting that her players were fully prepared to defend their title.

But when it came to their performance at Letzigrund in Zurich, they failed to live up to their status.

It was a positive start for the Lionesses, with Alessia Russo slotting the ball home after jumping onto a rebound from goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud Magnin in the 16th minute.

However, the goal was ruled out following a VAR check for a marginal offside involving Beth Mead in the build-up.

Then two quick-fire goals from Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Sandy Baltimore put France in a commanding lead.

And not even Kiera Walsh’s strike could inspire a late comeback.
