Don Charles calls out Fabio Wardley over “bin man” remark, demands apology

Don Charles didn’t hold back when asked about an alleged comment from Fabio Wardley, calling it “bang out of order” and demanding a retraction ahead of his fighter’s upcoming bout.

The trainer, who works with Daniel Dubois, reacted to a claim that Wardley had suggested Dubois would be “a bin man” if he weren’t a boxer. Charles said the remark caught him off guard and crossed a line.

“That’s quite shocking to me, I’m surprised coming from Fabio,” Charles said. “A binman? Because you earn a lot of money, and bin men do it. It would do every type of job to put food on the table for our families,” said Charles to Queensberry.

Charles defended working-class jobs and said the comparison reflected poorly on Wardley rather than Dubois.

“So I think that’s an insult to the bin man for him to refer to [Dubois that way],” Charles said. “I mean, it’s something that is quite condescending. I don’t think you feel suddenly privileged because you’re a world champion. You should retract the statement. Because bang out of order.”

The comments add anger to a fight that already carried stylistic intrigue, with Wardley entering as a pressure fighter who has openly targeted an early stoppage, while Dubois continues to deal with questions about his durability in difficult moments.

“If he wasn’t a boxer, I think he might just be a bin man or something like that,” said Warley to DAZN about Dubois.

The reaction itself now becomes part of the build, and it gives the fight a sharper edge than it had before.

“Really, it’s disrespect, but we’ll address that in the ring,” said Dubois about Wardley saying he’d be a “bin man” if he weren’t a boxer. “Of course, I’m above him in every sense. Pedigree, skill-wise, and everything like that. It’s time to shut him down in the ring. I’m a bin man, and I’ve just got to take out the trash.”

Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) defends his WBO heavyweight title against Dubois (22-3,21 KOs) on May 9th on DAZN PPV at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England.
