Matt Shaw left Sunday’s game in what was then considered a surprise move, Justin Dean batted for him in the ninth inning. After the game this is what we found out:

Today, per Jesse Rogers, the Cubs placed Shaw on the 10-day injured list with that wrist issue:

To replace Shaw on the 26-man active roster, the team recalled Kevin Alcántara from Triple-A Iowa.

In limited duty with the Cubs so far this year, Alcántara is 1-for-9 with one walk in 12 games. He was used mostly as a pinch-runner and as a defensive replacement. At Iowa, Alcántara is batting .273/.367/.569 (59-for-248) with 15 home runs in 55 games.

This is the second IL stint for Shaw, who also missed time with a back issue. Shaw is batting .246/.322/.415 (32-for-130) with four home runs and four stolen bases in 56 games for the Cubs this year..

As always, we await further developments.
