CHELSEA are in crisis with just two fit centre-backs left following a double injury blow against Liverpool.

Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong picked up injuries in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

That left the Blues with a patched-up defence as Reece James was forced to partner Jorrell Hato in central defence.

But incredibly it was the West Londoners who bagged the three points thanks to Estevao’s late winner against the champions.

James began the match in midfield but Enzo Maresca was forced to readjust with Badiashile and Acheampong going off 13 minutes apart.

Chelsea have five other centre-backs in the squad but they were all unavailable to play except for one – Axel Disasi.

And the Frenchman is part of Maresca’s bomb squad, so has not played a minute all season.

Trevoh Chalobah, who was absent due to suspension, is set to return after the international break.

And Maresca will be hoping the injuries picked up against Liverpool are not serious, with a two-week gap until their next match against Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea were also without Wesley Fofana due to concussion and Tosin Adarabioyo, who picked up a calf injury in the warm up against Brighton last week.

Levi Colwill is also out for the season after rupturing his ACL.

Chelsea have injuries all over the pitch, with Cole Palmer, Andrey Santos, Dario Essugo and Liam Delap still sidelined.

Unprecedented circumstances and red card woe add to Maresca’s Chelsea blues

However there was one silver lining as long-term injury absentee Romeo Lavia appeared again from bench replacing Badiashile.
