Charlie Edwards sees a path to Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, but first he needs to take care of business against Sikho Nqothole next week and force his way into the IBF title picture at 115 pounds.

Edwards (21-2, 7 KOs) faces Nqothole (21-3, 15 KOs) on May 29 at York Hall in Bethnal Green in a fight that could move him closer to another title shot. Bam’s long-term plans remain uncertain after moving between divisions, but Edwards believes a collision course can still develop if Rodriguez returns to super flyweight.

“Whether he comes back down to 115 again at super flyweight limit, I don’t know if that’s going to happen. Although Eddie is the King of spinning narratives, he knows how to link a name with everyone. So, they are talking about staying at 115, too,” said Edwards to Sky Sports.

“However, I’m going down the IBF route. Obviously, I have a tough task at hand with Sikho coming up next week, but one I’m fully confident at beating anyone in the super flyweight division. I’m going down the IBF route, and the IBF is quite strict.”

Edwards then made it clear he does not want another delay in his career after years of setbacks and inactivity, saying a Bam Rodriguez fight is something he intends to chase aggressively if the opportunity opens up.

“So with all this going on, once I get past Sikho, we will be putting the email in. I don’t want my career to be stalled any more than it has been throughout all the years, and we’ll try to pursue that,” said Edwards.

“And if Bam Rodriguez does decide to come and undispute down at super flyweight, then he’s going to have to go through me inevitably. And that’s how I see it.

“And it creates and makes a massive fight. Obviously, my brother has fought Bam. Like I’ve always said. I’ve always chosen to chase greatness, and it’s one fight at a time right now. But I’m not naive to think it’s out there right now, and it would always be to have my old promoter and my old mate, Eddie Hearn, on the other side of the table. I’d love that.”

Edwards is coming off a 10-round decision win over Salvador Juarez last September. Before that, he dropped a split decision to Andrew Cain in March 2025.
