The Arizona Cardinals have explored various ways to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season, whether through the NFL Draft or other moves. The team took a significant risk on second-round pick Will Johnson, who must prove he can stay healthy like he did in college if he wants to see the field.

“The 22-year-old is expected to be ready for training camp for the NFL teams during this off period. Once back in the lineup, he must display the complete coverage skill set that initially crowned him as a projected first-round pick,” Bleacher Report’s Damian Parson wrote.

Several defensive rookies are competing for playing time and even starting roles. But it’s never too early to prepare for next season’s rookie class. There is speculation the Cardinals could add wide receiver Carnell Tate.

“Carnell Tate may not be as talented as teammate Jeremiah Smith, but his excellent route running and hands should make him the first receiver off the board in the 2026 NFL Draft,” Stadium Rant’s Ian Ritter wrote. “Tate recorded 52 catches for 733 yards and four touchdowns during his sophomore campaign, and should improve on those numbers this season. He’ll make a fitting complement to Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride in the Arizona Cardinals’ aerial attack.”

Though Tate is a prospect for next year, adding him would greatly benefit the Cardinals’ offense. Still, Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame believes Arizona already has enough firepower to compete for the NFC West title this season.

“The Los Angeles Rams are the NFC West favorite in many eyes, but the Cardinals have enough firepower to make it an intriguing race. There’s also the third-place schedule Arizona will face, giving it a trio of easier games (in theory, at least) over the Rams in the divisional race,” Verderame said.
