Turki Alalshikh mentioned that he hopes to renew his contract with Canelo Alvarez to begin matching him against some top fighters he’s eyeing. He’s got a gauntlet planned for Canelo to run.

Three of the four fighters Turki mentioned wanting to match Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) would likely beat him. That’s not counting his September 13th clash against Terence Crawford, which is a 50-50 one.

Canelo’s Challenging Opponents

– Hamzah Sheeraz
– Christian Mbilli
– David Benavidez
– Dmitry Bivol

Turki says he wants to keep Canelo with him the remainder of his career. However, that may not be too much longer if he fights the guys that he wants him to. Alvarez may not be worth keeping on board for more than two fights if Turki matches him against the fighters on his list.

It would be safer for Turki to just do a fight-by-fight deal with Canelo. He’s not good enough to be beat some of the contenders at 168 that he’s been avoiding like the plague. Mbilli would expose Canelo, as would Osley Iglesias.

Sheeraz: Canelo’s Easiest Fight?

The only one that Canelo would likely beat is Hamzah Sheeraz, and that’s because he has no real experience. You can’t count the hype job Edgar Berlanga as actual experience at 168.

“Hamzah. We are discussing with Canelo to renew the contract with him,” said Turki Alalshikh to Ring Magazine’s YouTube channel. “Maybe we can reach a point where we can have Canelo with us forever until he retires. In my plan, there is Hamzah, Mbilli, and maybe one day, Benavidez. There is Bivol. There are a lot of fights for Canelo. But first, let’s see what happens in September.”

Crawford Threatens Turki’s Plans

Canelo losing to Crawford would ruin Turki’s big plans for him to advance to other guys on his list. Alvarez would have to avenge his loss, and who knows if he can? If he’s beaten once by Crawford, he’ll get beaten again.

“This may open another page for Crawford if he wants to continue. Let’s see the results. You don’t know. This fight [Canelo-Crawford], in my opinion, is a 50-50 fight. We have one of the biggest fights in boxing in the last ten years. With our relationship with Netflix, this fight can go far,” said Turki.
