Max Kellerman: “Do you think that coverage was fair to you?”

Carrington didn’t hesitate.

“No, I don’t think so, especially being that these guys are fighters in their own right. They should know more than anybody else in terms of not every fight is going to be a knockout or the most entertaining. It is what it is. I feel like because they’re boxers, they should know better. It is what it is. I understand the whole entertainment aspect and the fan aspect. But remember what a Shu Shu show is, bro. It’s just as simple as that.”

Carrington’s unanimous decision over Palacios was one of the featured bouts on a heavily promoted DAZN card, but it failed to generate much excitement. While he controlled much of the action behind his jab and movement, the bout drew criticism for its cautious pace and lack of urgency against an opponent many expected him to dominate.

The performance also included several uncomfortable moments. In the eighth round, Carrington went to one knee after taking a left hand, insisting he had been struck behind the head. Replays appeared to show the punch landing to the side of the head, leading to debate over whether it should have been ruled a knockdown. Carrington remained down long enough that questions were raised about whether he would have beaten the count had the referee scored it as one.

Palacios also hurt Carrington with body shots in the 11th round, forcing the unbeaten contender to clinch until he recovered.

Carrington argued that former fighters working as commentators should better appreciate that not every fight will produce a knockout or an action-packed spectacle. The DAZN broadcast, however, focused on more than entertainment. The commentary questioned his safety-first approach, highlighted the disputed eighth-round sequence and the body shots that troubled him late, and raised questions about whether the performance strengthened his case as a future world title challenger.

Television commentators walk a fine line. Fighters rarely welcome criticism, but viewers also expect honest analysis. Commentators are hired to analyze the action, including performances that fall short of expectations.
