Martin Perez has given this Braves team 121.0 important innings of reasonably well pitched and fortunate innings this season. It was far from a lock that he would make the roster and he was even DFA’d, but those innings have been very important to Atlanta’s current position. He hasn’t pitched like a 3.05 ERA pitcher, running a 4.18 FIP and a 4.25 xFIP, but those innings are banked at a 3.05 ERA rate if runs allowed. It’s valuable to appreciate the value of those innings to this team, highlighted by 5.2 innings of one run ball on six strikeouts Saturday.
