The Buffalo Bills have made some moves to bolster their roster during the offseason, but the cornerback position remains a major concern.

While the Bills did lock up Christian Benford, things are very shaky on the other side across from him, where Dane Jackson is currently penciled in to start as last year’s starter, Rasul Douglas, remains a free agent.

Jackson had a rough year with the Carolina Panthers last season and is best served as a backup. As much as Douglas struggled in 2024, Jackson’s coverage numbers were even worse.

As Bills fans patiently wait for something to happen, Pro Football & Sports Network’s Sterling Xie predicts Buffalo will strike a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks for cornerback Riq Woolen. Xie thinks the Bills could nab the former Pro Bowler by sending Seattle one of its second-round picks, of which the team has two.

However, Buffalo could opt for a more aggressive and creative solution to maximize its Super Bowl window. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen has had a terrific start to his career, allowing a 68.8 passer rating in coverage. That’s second-best among 35 cornerbacks to defend 200+ targets since 2022, behind only L’Jarius Sneed.

Since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Woolen has been a revelation and is one of the better young cornerbacks in the league.

In 2024, Woolen posted a completion rate allowed of 52.9% and a passer rating of 76.9, which would amount to an enormous upgrade over Douglas and Jackson.

So, why would the Seahawks even consider trading Woolen?

Well, he did run into an issue with the team last season after he was benched for a rules violation. Perhaps that has caused a strain in the relationship with head coach Mike Macdonald, but we can’t say that for sure.

At the end of the day, Woolen is just too valuable to the Seahawks’ defense to part ways with. It would take a lot for Seattle to move him, which means he is unlikely to be an option for Buffalo, or any other team, for that matter.
