“It’s a package deal. We want you both,” Bill told Davis during the conversation. “You guys got to get together. You got to sign the agreement together. Then we’re going back to back with you gentlemen.”
The discussion became more revealing when Davis attempted to push the conversation toward a direct fight with Devin. Bill responded by explaining that Davis was not at the top of the list.
“I told you I’m going to give you a good one because you was lower on the list. It was Shakur,” Bill said.
The comments came as Davis continued pressing for a fight with Haney, insisting he was ready immediately and questioning what more preparation was needed. Bill acknowledged the interest but repeatedly returned to the idea of securing both Davis and Stevenson.
“It’s called a double up,” Bill said. “Two for one on one agreement. We get both of y’all.”
The exchange offers a glimpse into how Team Haney views the landscape. While Davis recently became the WBO’s No. 1 contender and has publicly pursued a fight with Haney, Stevenson remains the bigger commercial attraction and the more established name. Stevenson is also a long-time rival of Haney, dating back to their amateur days.
Davis appeared eager to move himself to the front of the line during the conversation, but Bill’s response suggested Team Haney sees the situation differently. At one point, Bill contrasted Devin’s accomplishments with Davis’s relative lack of professional experience, noting that Davis has only 14 professional fights.
That position became even more apparent when Bill offered a fallback scenario.
“If Shakur don’t want to do it, you’re still going to get it,” he told Davis.
The timing is notable because Devin Haney has also been publicly engaging with the subject. Earlier this week, Haney reposted an old video of Stevenson calling for a fight with him and added the caption, “Debo coming.”
Taken together, the message from Team Haney appears clear. They want both Stevenson and Davis. If given the choice, Stevenson comes first.
