Daulton Varsho is headed to Houston.
The Astros are finalizing a deal to land the outfielder just ahead of the deadline on Monday afternoon, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. In return, the Toronto Blue Jays will pick up starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti.
The deal is pending physicals for both players.
Varsho holds a .243 batting average this season, his seventh in the league, with 26 RBI and seven home runs. The 29-year-old, who won the Gold Glove in 2024, is on a one-year, $10.75 million deal with the Blue Jays. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
Arrighetti holds a 4.60 ERA and a 7-5 record in 17 starts with the Astros this season, his third in the league. He’s currently on the injured list, however, while dealing with a foot injury. It’s unclear when he’ll be able to return, though it’s expected at some point this season.
The Astros are entering Monday’s contest with the Blue Jays, which will open a three-game series between the two teams at Daikin Park, with a 58-55 record. They’ve won 11 of their last 12, too, and have jumped into first in the AL West race.
The Blue Jays, on the other hand, have been struggling. They sit at just 52-60 on the season and are in last in the AL East, just months removed from their first trip to the World Series since 1993.
The move is just the latest the Blue Jays have made at the deadline this season. They sent starter Kevin Gausman to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, but then acquired José Soriano in a deal with the Los Angeles Angels earlier on Monday.
