ARSENAL are plotting a shock summer swoop for Atletico Madrid hitman Julian Alvarez.
The Gunners considered a move for the World Cup winner, 25, last summer before opting for Viktor Gyokeres.
But ESPN reports that interest has now “intensified” after Alvarez bagged 11 goals and five assists in 28 games this term.
Arsenal have a secret weapon in negotiations — new sporting director Andrea Berta.
The Italian spent 12 years at Atletico and was the man who personally negotiated Alvarez’s £82million move from Manchester City in 2024.
He retains a close relationship with the striker’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo.

And informal enquiries have reportedly already been made.
Nevertheless, the exact nature of the Premier League leaders’ contact is unclear.
Alvarez has an astronomical £433million release clause.
But it is understood Atleti would listen to offers in excess of £87million.
Barcelona also hold a strong interest in the Argentine.
But their ongoing financial difficulties are a major obstacle.
Alvarez has amassed a total of 40 goals and 13 assists in 85 appearances with the Madrid giants since his move almost two years ago.
