ANGE POSTECOGLOU has emerged as the favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers in the Celtic hot-seat.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest boss has been tipped to make a stunning return to his old club in Scotland after Rodgers tendered his resignation at Parkhead.

Rodgers, 52, has quit the Hoops for a second time after his return turned sour this season, with Hearts currently eight points clear at the top of the Premiership following Sunday’s result at Tynecastle.

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney will take charge on an interim basis whilst the Celtic hierarchy assess their options.

And it didn’t take long for Postecoglou to jump straight to the top of the bookies’ list of potential replacements.

According to bookmaker Coral, Postecoglou is the odds-on favourite to be the next permanent Celtic manager.

He comes in at 4/5 and is followed closely by former Celtic striker Robbie Keane at 3/1, while Ole Gunnar Solkskjaer makes up the top three at 6/1.

Maloney is also believed to be in the running with odds of 8/1 along with Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen.

Craig Bellamy and Damien Duff then follow at 10/1 and Erik Ten Hag is an outsider at 12/1.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Ange Postecoglou has been heavily backed in our betting to make a return to Celtic Park.

“It’s been an eventful few months for the Australian, and he may not have to wait long for his return to the dugout.”

Postecoglou is currently without a job after he was axed by Forest after just 39 days last week.

It was his second dismissal in just four months after he was shown the door at Tottenham in June.

The former Socceroos head coach led Spurs to victory in the Europa League final just 16 days prior.

He made headlines last season when he fulfilled his promise of delivering a trophy in his second season.

Postecoglou revolutionised Celtic in his two-year spell in Glasgow and would be a very popular appointment for Celtic fans.

He won five trophies in two seasons, including a Treble in his second.
