Andy Ruiz Jr. Reveals Anthony Joshua’s Key to Beating Tyson Fury

The former unified heavyweight champion says Joshua must pressure Fury from the opening bell instead of letting him control the fight’s rhythm.

Andy Ruiz Jr. believes Anthony Joshua should attack Tyson Fury rather than box cautiously if the British heavyweights finally meet later this year. Ruiz says allowing Fury to dictate the distance and tempo would play directly into the former WBC champion’s strengths.

“It’s going to be a good fight. I’m going to tell you the truth. If Tyson Fury gets in Joshua’s head, he boxes around, moves around, throw his combinations, maybe it could affect Anthony Joshua,” said Ruiz to talkSPORT Boxing. “But if Anthony Joshua goes in there and starts banging out with Tyson Fury, he could probably win. It only takes one punch to change the whole fight. That’s going to be an exciting fight.”

Ruiz’s perspective is unique because he forced Joshua into a dramatic change in approach after their first meeting at Madison Square Garden. Joshua boxed cautiously during their rematch six months later to regain his heavyweight titles. Since then, he has relied more on discipline than sustained aggression.

Ruiz believes that style gives Fury an advantage. In his view, Joshua improves his chances only by forcing the action from the opening bell. That approach leaves Fury reacting instead of controlling the pace.

Ruiz will first try to restart his own title pursuit against Knyba after nearly two years away from competition. A victory would keep the former unified champion in the heavyweight picture following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate his heavyweight titles.
