Undefeated lightweight contender Alan “Veneno” Chaves could face Justin Pauldo later this summer, according to a report from Argentine journalist Fernando Sabatini.
Sabatini reported that Chaves, 22-0 (19 KOs), is being discussed as a possible opponent for Pauldo, 20-2 (10 KOs), with the fight potentially taking place between August and September.
The development comes as questions remain about the date of the upcoming Diego Pacheco card in Los Angeles. Sabatini reported that Chaves was expected to appear on the July 18 event, though the card could be pushed back to August if scheduling changes are made.
According to Sabatini, the situation remains fluid, and the original July date could still remain in place if the issues are resolved.
“Alan “Veneno” Chaves (22-0, 19 KOs) 🇦🇷 could face Justin Pauldo (20-2, 10 KOs) 🇺🇸 between August and September,” said Sabatini on X. “Chaves was going to be on the Diego Pacheco card on July 18 in Los Angeles, but that event might undergo a date change, possibly to August. Although they might sort it out, and there won’t be any modifications.”
A matchup with Pauldo would represent another significant step for Chaves following his recent arrival on the U.S. scene. The hard-hitting Argentine made his Las Vegas debut on April 25 and scored a knockout victory over Miguel Madueño.
Chaves signed with Matchroom earlier this year and has compiled a 22-0 record with 19 knockouts. The 27-year-old has emerged as one of Argentina’s leading lightweight contenders and is looking to build on the momentum from his victory over Madueño.
Thus far, no fight has been officially announced, but Sabatini’s report suggests Chaves and Pauldo could be headed toward a showdown later this year, while the date of the Diego Pacheco card remains uncertain.
