Simon Jordan believes Eddie Hearn already knows Tyson Fury will meet Anthony Joshua in New York, accusing him of posturing to preserve leverage during negotiations.
Jordon dismissed Hearn’s insistence that the contract for a United Kingdom event remains unchanged. Hearn admitted discussions are underway over a revised deal, though several conditions have yet to be settled. Jordan views those comments as public positioning from a promoter reluctant to concede that the final decision may no longer belong to him.
“It will be in Madison Square Garden, and he knows it will be in Madison Square Garden. They know it’s going to be in America,” said Simon to talkSPORT Boxing. “I would imagine they want to retain some degree of value in the conversation because who wants to be told, ‘We’ve got a contract. You’re going to do as you’re told, when you’re told and how you’re told?’”
The talkSPORT host Jordan bases his view on the financial interests surrounding the event. Turki Alalshikh continues investing in American boxing, TKO has its own business reasons for wanting the bout in New York, and Netflix gains a major event during US prime time.
British fans may resent losing the fight to America and having to watch during the early hours. Jordan doubts their preference will outweigh the money available from staging it at Madison Square Garden.
He also stripped away the promotional spin surrounding the pairing. Both fighters are past their peaks, turning the matchup into a commercial event rather than the undisputed championship fight it once promised to be.
“This is a money fight. We can dress it up as a generational moment in time, but if it was a generational moment in time, it would have happened when there was some real validity behind it and when there was something on the line besides perceived legacy.”
That argument cuts through the sentimental talk about keeping the fight on British soil. Fury and Joshua are aging attractions trying to secure the largest purses still available to them. If New York produces the preferred financial package, Hearn will have little reason to block the contract from being revised.
