“They 48 hours from today to confirm in writing,” Olivieri said.

The brief reply explains that the bidding does not immediately complete the process. Instead, the parties have 48 hours to provide written confirmation before the promotion moves to the next stage.

The written confirmation gives the WBO formal notice that both parties intend to proceed under the terms established by the purse bid. Once that step is completed, the promotion can move ahead with final preparations for the championship event without further uncertainty over the contractual process.

Top Rank secured the promotional rights with its $8.55 million bid, establishing guaranteed purses of $6,412,500 for Haney and $2,137,500 for Davis under the WBO’s mandated 75-25 split. The sanctioning body also announced an October 3 fight date.

Olivieri’s reply answered one of the biggest questions left after Thursday’s purse bid. The 48-hour window is part of the WBO’s standard administrative process rather than an indication that the fight has encountered a problem.

Assuming the paperwork is submitted within the allotted time, attention will turn to confirming the venue, broadcast plans, ticket information, and undercard for one of the biggest welterweight title fights scheduled this fall.
