SugarHill Defends Tyson Fury’s Decision To Fight Mariusz Wach Before Anthony Joshua

SugarHill Steward believes Tyson Fury is making the right decision by staying active instead of waiting on a blockbuster showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Steward defended Fury’s upcoming bout against veteran heavyweight Mariusz Wach on July 24th, saying the former two-time heavyweight champion simply wants to keep fighting rather than remain inactive while larger opportunities develop.

“Pretty much it’s any fight Tyson wants to fight,” SugarHill said to Secondsout. “He wants to stay busy. He should have that right to stay busy if it can be made happen. I mean, if it can be made to happen. So yeah, that’s where we are now.”

Fury is scheduled to face the 46-year-old Wach before an expected all-British clash with Anthony Joshua later this year. Some fans have questioned the wisdom of taking another fight first, given the financial significance of a Joshua showdown, but SugarHill dismissed concerns about the risk involved.

When asked whether Fury was putting too much on the line by facing Wach, SugarHill pointed out that danger exists every time a fighter steps into the ring.

“Jeopardy in every fight. Don’t even go there,” Steward said. “There’s always jeopardy. It could be a bad cut. Anything could happen in that fight. You can get injured on the way to the fight, going to the ring, twist your ankle, break it or something. There’s just so many different options. It doesn’t even have to do with just fighting.”

SugarHill’s comments reflect the philosophy that inactivity carries its own risks. Rather than waiting months for Joshua, he believes Fury should continue competing if suitable opportunities are available.

The matchup with Wach is expected to serve as Fury’s first fight since his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. If Fury comes through without incident, attention is likely to shift immediately toward a long-discussed meeting with Joshua, one of the biggest fights that can still be made in the heavyweight division.
