Mike Coppinger reported that negotiations between the camps have intensified, with contracts being exchanged and September or October emerging as the likely timeframe for the fight.

If finalized, the matchup would mark Tank’s first appearance since his controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. earlier this year. The result ended Davis’ lengthy winning streak and generated debate among fans and analysts, with many believing Roach had done enough to secure the victory.

Schofield, meanwhile, would be receiving the biggest opportunity of his young career. The 23-year-old contender has built an undefeated record while steadily climbing the rankings, earning the WBA’s No. 1 position at lightweight. Although Schofield has drawn criticism from some observers for not facing elite opposition, a fight with Gervonta would provide an immediate chance to prove himself against one of boxing’s biggest attractions.

Davis, 31-0-1 (29 KOs), remains one of the sport’s most recognizable stars and a major pay-per-view draw despite the questions surrounding his last performance. Before the Roach fight, the Baltimore native had recorded stoppage victories over Frank Martin and Ryan Garcia, reinforcing his reputation as one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers.

Schofield, 19-0 (13 KOs), has repeatedly expressed interest in facing the division’s top names. A victory over Tank would instantly transform the lightweight landscape and elevate him from promising contender to world champion.
